Chris Eames from Lisburn was presented with the prestigious RYA NI Young Sailor of the Year Award 2009 at the Tullet Prebon London International Boat Show. The awards were presented by sailing legend Ben Ainslie, a previous winner himself, and recognise the outstanding achievements of youth sailors across the country.
Chris was voted RYA NI’s Regional Young Sailor of the Year 2009 last autumn following his outstanding sailing season. Chris finished 1st in the UK Topper Nationals 2009 and is first NI sailor to achieve this, he was also 1st in the Irish Topper Nationals 2009, and after moving up to the Laser he finished 1st in the Irish Laser 4.7 Nationals, and 1st Laser 4.7 at the RYANI Volvo Youth Championships. Chris was also a member of the RYA GBR Topper Squad last year.
Chris was amongst thirteen RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year winners who are voted for by RYA affiliated clubs and associations. These young sailors have made a significant impact on youth sailing, ranging from gold medal winning achievements and overcoming adversity, to the huge amount of hard work and effort they give back to their clubs.
