Sail Training Ireland has secured grants through the EU Commissions "Youth in Action" programme to fund young people aged 16-25 years (with some allowance for up to 27 years on request) to undertake Sail Training Voyages on the Tall Ships this summer in the Irish Sea. These are youth exchange projects funded by the "Youth in Action" scheme. The projects take place at the end of May and there are a few places still available for young people from Northern Ireland.
We make these sponsored places available through organisations that
work with young people such as youth groups, community groups, schools,
sports clubs etc.
Sail Training is an activity with youth development at its core and
uses the experience of life at sea as a medium for developing life
skills such as self-confidence, motivation and resilience.
The funding is available for young people in both the Republic of
Ireland and Northern Ireland and the voyages take place on two Tall
Ships sailing from Belfast to Dublin at the end of May and Start of
June.
There are still places available to Northern Irish youth sections
The over 18s voyage sails back to Bangor after a weekend of camping
and hiking in Wicklow. It is 14 nights in total. The under 18's voyage
finishes in Dublin after 6 nights.
Educational Aims of the on board programmes include Cultural Awareness, Leadership and Teamwork
